Students, staff, and community members are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Hillside High School’s new sustainable greenhouse on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 9 a.m.

The greenhouse, funded through a $10,000 grant from the Sustainable Jersey Grants Program supported by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), is designed to provide students with year-round opportunities for hands-on learning.
The facility will extend the growing season and serve as an outdoor classroom where students can participate in gardening projects, sustainability initiatives, environmental studies, and greenhouse-based educational activities.
School officials say the greenhouse will create new opportunities for experiential learning while helping students develop a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees will help welcome Hillside’s kindergarten students as they take part in special garden-themed activities celebrating the opening of the new learning space.

The event marks a significant step in expanding environmental education opportunities for students and strengthening the district’s commitment to sustainability and hands-on learning experiences.
