Families, schools, and food service providers across the nation are being warned about a massive recall involving popular lunch products after federal officials flagged a safety concern.
The Hillshire Brands Company, based in Haltom City, Texas, is recalling nearly 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products because pieces of wood were discovered embedded in the batter.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed the recall in a statement issued this week.
The affected items were packaged between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025, and bear the establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894.”
While the products were sold to school districts, USDA officials stressed they were not part of food provided through the National School Lunch Program.
Distribution also reached online retailers, commercial food service outlets, and Department of Defense facilities nationwide.
The problem surfaced after Hillshire Brands received consumer complaints, including five cases where injuries were reported.
Company investigators determined wooden sticks entered the production process before the batter coating stage.
While no new injuries have been reported, USDA urges anyone concerned about illness or injury to seek medical attention.
Consumers are advised to check packaging, review the full list of recalled products and labels online, and avoid eating any of the affected items.
