Newark residents will have an opportunity to receive help with rising energy and utility costs during a Utility Assistance Day event scheduled for Tuesday.

According to event organizers, Assemblywoman Shanique Speight, Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz, and Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin are hosting the event on April 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The event will take place at the Congregational Baptist Church, located at 399 Bergen Street in Newark.

Officials said the event is designed to connect residents with programs that can help reduce or manage utility expenses.
Attendees will be able to learn about and enroll in several assistance programs, including the Universal Service Fund (USF), SHARES Utility Assistance Grants, NJ Lifeline for senior citizens and disabled adults, and various energy efficiency programs.
Organizers noted that representatives from community organizations and utility partners will be on site to provide guidance and assist residents through the application process.

The event is open to the public and aims to provide direct support to individuals and families facing financial challenges related to energy costs.
