HelloFresh to Close NJ Distribution Center, Cut 374 Jobs as Newark Facility Remains Open

By: Richard L. Smith

HelloFresh is preparing to shut down one of its New Jersey distribution centers, a move that will eliminate hundreds of jobs in Gloucester County.

According to a WARN notice filed with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Grocery Delivery E-Services USA Inc., doing business as HelloFresh, will eliminate 374 positions connected to its Swedesboro facility.

NJ.Gov revealed that the  state notice lists the layoffs as effective November 17, 2026.

The distribution center is physically located in Logan Township but carries a Swedesboro mailing address.

HelloFresh has said the facility itself is expected to cease operations on September 30, with its workload being integrated into the company's broader fulfillment network according to inquire.com.

Company officials said the decision followed a review of HelloFresh's operational footprint as it looks for ways to improve efficiency throughout its fulfillment system.

The shutdown comes as HelloFresh continues restructuring operations following the rapid expansion of the meal-kit business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company has closed or consolidated other U.S. facilities as part of an effort to reduce costs and improve productivity.

HelloFresh continues to operate a major distribution center in Newark. However, contrary to some reports indicating that the company still has three active New Jersey distribution centers, HelloFresh told NJBIZ that its Totowa facility closed in late 2023, with that location's volume shifted to Newark and facilities in Phoenix and Irving, Texas.

The Swedesboro announcement adds to a growing list of major employers reducing their New Jersey workforces.

Recent WARN notices have included hundreds of positions at Samsung Electronics America, Mars Wrigley, Novartis, Verizon and other companies across the state.

For the 374 employees affected by the HelloFresh decision, the state WARN notice currently lists November 17 as the effective date of the job cuts.
