HEALTH ALERT: Hudson County Measles Outbreak

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) is working with Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services to investigate a confirmed case of measles.

This individual developed a rash illness on January 19th and had recent international travel.

While infectious, the person potentially exposed persons while visiting the following locations at the dates and times specified:

Christ Hospital, 176 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306

January 20-January 21, between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

January 22, between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

PATH Stations: Journal Square and Newport AND

PATH Train: Journal Square – 33rd St Line

January 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

The NJDOH is working with the affected local health departments within NJ to manage the exposures. To date, no cases associated with the exposures occurring in Jersey City have been identified. Persons exposed could develop symptoms as late as February 14th, 2017.

Individuals who might have been exposed are urged to contact their healthcare providers to discuss their exposure and risk of developing the illness. Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with measles is urged to call their healthcare provider BEFORE going to the medical office or emergency room so that special arrangements can be made to minimize exposure in the healthcare setting.
