The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a crash that killed a person in Lakewood Friday evening.
Officials say the violent head-on crash happened around 5 p.m. on Joe Parker and Lanes Mill roads.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found two severely damaged vehicles, with one person heavily trapped inside one of the cars.
Police say firefighters extricated the male victim then transported him to Ocean Medical Center for treatment, where doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
Authorities are looking into the possibilities of a possible road rage incident but have not confirmed the cause of the crash.
There were no other injuries reported.
