Head-on Crash Causes Injuries in Newark's South Ward

Police in Newark's South Ward are investigating a Friday morning crash that occurred at the intersection of Bergen and Madison Avenue that closed down traffic in the area for a short time.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the scene of a crash that occurred at around 9:15 a.m. where they arrived to find two severely damaged vehicles that collided head-on at that location according to a statement released by Newark Police.

Newark Police officials said one male driver was transported to the hospital after he complained of pain from the deployment of his airbag. There were no reports from Newark Police of a pedestrian being struck during the incident as rumors surfaced on social media.

The incident remains under investigation.
