Harrison Police Arrest Newark Man for Alleged Drunk Driving, Assault by Auto

A man who struck several vehicles then fleeing the scene in Harrison overnight had police placing the suspect in custody.

According to Harrison Police, at approximately 2:10 a.m. on Saturday , officers on patrol were flagged down on the way to another call for service and directed to a hit and run.

Authorities said while other units responded to the scene of the hit and run, the suspect's vehicle, a black Saab with PA registration and heavy front end damage, was observed and stopped at Frank E. Rogers Boulevard and Jersey Street.

Officers found the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Gonzalo Guadelupe, bleeding heavily from his face with a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breath authorities said.

Police placed Mr. Guadelupe under arrest while EMS transported him to the hospital suffering a possible broken nose and other minor injuries.

Authorities said Guadalupe crashed into a vehicle at Cleveland and 5th Street before his capture.

A female driver of the involved vehicle was transported to the hospital as well suffering minor injuries.

Police charged Mr. Guadelupe with DWI, Assault by Auto, and numerous motor vehicle violations.
