Hackensack Teacher's Aid Charged with Assaulting Student

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of Jose D. Garrido, 60, of North Bergen, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.

On November 19, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hackensack Police Department arrested Garrido after an investigation into a complaint of assault upon a juvenile student at the YCS George Washington School located at 386 Hudson Street in Hackensack.

The Hackensack Police Department learned of the assault from the parent of the juvenile student and the Hackensack Police notified the Special Victims Unit.

The ensuing joint investigation resulted in the arrest of Garrido, who was identified as a teacher’s aide at the school.

Garrido was charged with one (1) count each of endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.

His bail was set by the Honorable Susan J. Steele, J.S.C., at $20,000.00 with ten percent option.

Garrido is to have no contact with the victim as a condition of bail. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
