Hackensack River Death Ruled as Homicide, Hudson County Prosecutor Investigating

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released critical new findings regarding the death of a man found in the Hackensack River on Saturday, December 9, 2023.AdThe Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has classified the death as a homicide following an autopsy conducted on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The autopsy revealed that the male victim suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the upper body.

The discovery of the body was made around 12:45 p.m. near the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The Secaucus Police Department, aided by the Lyndhurst and Mahwah Fire Department Underwater Recovery Units and the Secaucus, Kearny, and Wallington Fire Departments, successfully recovered the body.

The male was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m.AdAs of now, the victim remains unidentified.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is working closely with law enforcement agencies across the state to determine the identity of the deceased.
