Hackensack Man Killed in Jersey City Motorcycle Crash

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez Said on Friday, shortly after 11:00 p..m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to Paterson Plank Road, south of the Congress Street intersection, on a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, responding officers found a motorcyclist with serious injuries after he crashed his motorcycle into a wall.

The motorcyclist was identified as Illich Ferrera, 43, of Hackensack. Ferrera was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to Hudson County officials.

The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department revealed that Ferrera was traveling north on Paterson Plank Road when he may have swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle.

Ferrera then traveled across the road and then off the roadway, where he ultimately crashed into a stone wall.

The events surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.

Investigators are also seeking the public’s assistance to help identify a vehicle and its occupants who may have witnessed the crash. The car is described as a large, older-style passenger van.

The van is believed to be dark red in color and is described as burgundy or maroon.
