Hackensack Firefighter Charged with Distribution of Oxycodone

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of James B. Rattacasa 35, of Hackensack, on a charge related to the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely oxycodone.

Authorities said the arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutors Office, the Hackensack Police Department, and the Oakland Police Department.

Police said, on May 6, 2017, the Oakland Police Department revived a 33-year-old male overdose victim using Nalaxone, the overdose reversal medication.

Subsequent investigation by the Oakland Police Department revealed that Rattacasa was distributing controlled dangerous substances in and around Hackensack.

According to authorities, following additional investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department, on Friday, police personnel arrested Rattacasa for distributing Oxycodone.

Police arrested Rattacasa without incident, and charged him with one count of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Oxycodone, in a quantity less than one ounce, a Third Degree Crime.

Rattacasa was released on his own recognizance pending a first appearance in the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

Prosecutor Grewal states that the above charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
