Officials in Bergen County reported the arrests of Mr. Tyrone Closs, 32, and Ms. Aniesa Samad, 24, both from Hackensack, on charges of aggravated manslaughter, desecrating human remains, criminal restraint, elder abuse, and obstruction.

Police said at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, the River Edge Police Department responded to a report of an adult male lying on the ground along Ackerson Street.

Upon arrival, officers located the male, later identified as Mr. Michael Kestenbaum, 62, who was deceased.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, and an investigation was initiated.

The weeks-long investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the River Edge Police Department revealed that Closs and Samad were responsible for Kestenbaum’s death, which occurred in Hackensack and that they subsequently abandoned his remains in River Edge.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
