Gunmen Fire Shots in Two Newark South Ward Neighborhoods; Property Damage

Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind two shootings that occurred in sections of Newark's South Ward on Monday evening.

According to police, in the first shooting incident. Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of 361 Bergen Street shortly before 7:45 p.m.

Officers arrived and requested a crime scene after they located multiple shell casings on the ground at that location. Police say after a search for the community, no victims were found.

According to police, in the other shots-fired incident, gunfire rang out in the area of Hunterdon Street and 18th Avenue around 9:15 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle struck by bullets and shell casings in the area.

Police say there were no injuries reported in this shooting.

Officials are trying to determine if the two shootings are related as they search for suspects responsible for the incidents.
