Gunmen Fire Several Bullets into The Body of Man on Street in Irvington Township; Homicide Investigation

Emergency responders frantically provided CPR to a man who police found suffering multiple gunshot wounds on a street in Irvington Township on Wednesday night.

It happened at approximately 9 p.m. where police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Nye Avenue and Grove Street.

According to reports police officers raced to the scene and found a severely injured male lying on the ground bleeding after two unidentified males approached and began to fire a weapon at the victim.

EMS rushed the man to University Hospital, where doctors were unsuccessful in keeping him alive. The victim transitioned at the hospital according to family and friends.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at-large. It is not immediately clear if this fatal incident is connected to a shooting that occurred on Florence Avenue during the overnight hours of Wednesday where armed males sprayed the residential block with more than 15 bullets that struck and damaged about a half dozen cars.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting.
