Newark

Newark Major Crimes Detectives and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office worked the scene of a shooting that left two people shot and at least one severely in Newark's East Ward Friday.

The early morning shooting happened at the Deep End Inn located in the 60's block of Pulaski Street, across the street from East Side High School.

In the preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired just before 1:15 a.m. sending officers to the scene to investigate.

When police arrived in the neighborhood, they taped off a block -in both directions- after locating two victims suffering multiple gunshot wounds in front of the bar.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the violent shooting when at least one of the victims was severely wounded.

 Shooting Fatal

Residents on Pulaski Street said several unanswered complaints had been made against the bar for various incidents in the past, but nothing has ever been done.

"This morning, we had to duck down in our homes hoping that a bullet didn't enter our space and injuring us after these guys began shooting," a female Pulaski Street resident said. "There is always something happening at this bar, it has always been a problem and we never get answers," the woman said.

Police have not immediately confirmed if the circumstances behind the shooting are directly caused by the bar at this time.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene and remain at large.
