Gunmen Fire Multiple Rounds of Gunfire Near Newark Housing Complex

Authorities checked several area hospitals for possible walk-in victims struck by bullets after gunmen fired multiple rounds of bullets near a housing complex in Newark's lower West Ward.

Early morning gunfire erupted from a moving vehicle in the vicinity of West Market Street and Little Avenue just before 2 a.m. where officers arriving at the scene found shell casing littering the sidewalk about a block long according to on the scene reports.

The area borders The Georgia King Village housing complex and senior citizen towers on one end and is within a short walking distance to University Hospital.

Police also checked the area around the 11th Avenue corridor after residents reported hearing loud crashing noises that resembled gunfire.

A dark colored vehicle -possibly a Toyota Highlander- was observed speeding away from the area immediately after gunfire rang out.

There were no victims found, but police located property damaged at the crime scene.

The suspect/s remain at-large.
