Gunman Misses After Firing Multiple Times at Man in Newark’s South Ward

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect wanted for firing shots at a man in Newark’s South Ward earlier this afternoon. 

Authorities say a ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of a shooting in the area of Chancellor and Maple avenues before 4 p.m. 

Officers arrived at the scene and taped the area off after locating multiple shell casings. 

Police believe the suspect produced a weapon and fired four times at the victim before fleeing the scene on foot. 

The victim managed to escape without injury. 

The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
