Gunman Fires Over a Dozen Rounds in Deadly Newark South Ward Shooting

Authorities in Essex County are urgently seeking a gunman following a fatal shooting incident on Tuesday night.ChickenThe Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead in the investigation, attempting to locate the individual responsible for a brazen attack that left one man dead.

The violence erupted shortly after 10 p.m. near the intersection of Nye Avenue and Wainwright Street.

A ShotSpotter device, deployed in the South Ward community near the edge of I-78, detected a shocking 16 rounds fired, prompting an immediate police response.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a grim scene near 244 Nye Avenue, where a male victim lay lifeless, succumbing to multiple bullet wounds to his chest.

A firearm was found at the crime scene, adding an apparent critical piece of evidence to the investigation.

Despite the swift action of police, the victim, who remains unidentified, was pronounced dead shortly after their discovery.

The assailant managed to flee the area and is currently at large, leaving the South Ward community on edge.

Detectives are now piecing together the circumstances that led to this violent attack in hopes of determining a motive and bringing the gunman to justice.

As the search continues, the Essex County community is left to mourn the senseless loss of life and call for an end to the violence plaguing some Newark streets within the last seven days.
