Authorities are searching for the suspect responsible for a Sunday night shooting that left an 11-year-old child injured and shook a section of the city.

According to preliminary information, the violence erupted just before 10:30 p.m. near Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Orient Avenue.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire arrived to find a vehicle riddled with bullets and a young boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The child was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover.

Police scoured the area for additional victims and evidence. No other injuries were reported. A section of Stephens Avenue was also searched after authorities received reports of possible gunfire in that area as well.

Investigators are now looking for a silver vehicle seen speeding away from the scene.

The car was reportedly occupied by a Black male wearing dark clothing, but no further description has been provided.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are trying to determine if the shooting was targeted or if it was a stray bullet that struck the boy.

Jersey City Police have not released additional details at this time.
