Gunfire Strikes Two Homes in Newark's South Ward

There were no injuries reported from a shots-fired incident that occurred in a Newark South Ward neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a ShotSpotter device detected over 20 rounds of gunfire in the area of 60's block of Hanford Street -near Evergreen Avenue- shortly before 3 p.m.

When units arrived at the scene, they immediately taped off the neighborhood after police found multiple shell casings and two homes struck by bullets.

Police say the suspect arrived in the community and began to fire a weapon repeatedly at unknown targets before fleeing the scene.

According to police, no one inside the homes were injured and the motive for the shooting is under investigation.
