Police in Newark are on the search for a gunman who repeatedly fired at a vehicle near a high school in the city's Central Ward this afternoon.
School officials at America History High placed the building on lockdown after an armed suspect began firing in the 70’s block of Montgomery Street around 2 p.m.
Police rushed to the scene, found shell casings and a car struck by bullets at that location.
No one inside the school building suffered injuries and the building was locked down for about 40 minutes.
Teachers conducting class near windows heard as many as six loud popping noises then urged students to seek cover on the floor of the classes.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
