Gunfire Leads to Bus Reroutes, Search for Victims in Newark's Upper West Ward

Monday evening in Newark's Upper West Ward was disrupted by gunfire, leading police to request NJ Transit to reroute buses as they combed the area for potential victims.NinosThe incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the vicinity of 21 Mount Vernon Place, drawing West Ward units to the scene to assess the situation.

Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings and a trail of blood, indicating the severity of the event. Despite an extensive search of the surrounding neighborhood, no injuries were reported immediately by the police.

The search extended to local hospitals, checking for any walk-in victims related to the shooting.

The Newark Shooting Response Team was dispatched to provide additional support in the investigation, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the gunfire remains unclear.
