Gunfire Erupts in Two Newark Vailsburg Neighborhoods

Police in Newark are investigating the motive behind two shots-fired incidents that erupted in the city's upper West Ward Sunday night. 

According to police, in the first incident, officers responded to reports of shots fired at 83-87 St. Paul Avenue around 8:35 p.m. 

When police arrived, they were told by witnesses that a suspect fired shots at unknown targets then fled the scene in a champagne-colored Pontiac Grand AM. 

Officers canvassed the scene and found shell casings, but no injuries were reported. 

In the other shooting incident, a ShotSpotter device activated in the area of 106 Oak Street, sending police to the scene to investigate. 

Upon arrival, police found shell casings, but no victims were located after they searched the area. 

The suspect fled the scene and remained at large.
