By: Richard L. Smith

Police in Newark are investigating the motive behind two shots fired incidents in Newark  Wednesday.

In one of the incidents, residents at the Fairview Homes Housing Development took cover and then dialed 911 after they heard multiple gunshots on the 17th Avenue side of the complex.

Authorities, already alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, arrived at the location and taped the area off after they found evidence of a shooting.

Police ordered hospitals in the region to check for potential walking gunshot victims, but no injuries were reported at the scene.

A stray bullet struck an unoccupied vehicle at the crime scene.

Police are also looking into a reported shooting on Frelinghuysen Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.
