Newark Police are searching for a suspect/s wanted for an early morning shooting near a cemetery in the city's West Ward on Wednesday.
Multiple rounds of gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 230 South 20th Street shortly before 12:50 a.m.
Officers arrived at the scene and found shell casings near the Newark Jewish Cemetery, but a search of the area indicated no injured victims.
Residents in that section of Newark's West Ward say criminal activity and drug dealing around the cemetery is frequent and becoming out of control near 11th, 12th, and 13th avenues.
Police would not say what prompted the shooting, and no arrests were reported in the incident.
The investigation is active.
