Gun Battle Results in Nearly Two Dozen Shots Fired, Property Damage on Street in Newark

Newark

Residents on a street in a section of Newark hunkered down in their homes for safety after gunmen arrived and began firing multiple rounds in that area of the city on Wednesday night.

According to police, there were no injuries reported during the gunbattle that occurred in the vicinity of 11th Avenue and South 10th Street just before 9:40 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and found about 18 shell casings, property damage, and other evidence, but a search of the area indicated no injuries, according to police.

Residents say although it has been a while since this type of shooting violence has occurred, the immediate area has not been immune to criminal activity.

The city has recorded several homicides -in past years- in that section of South 11th Street.

A white car was towed from the area of 10th Street and 11th Avenue and a person was detained by police.

The motive for Wednesday night shooting is under investigation.
