Grocery Store Armed Robbery Suspects Sought by Newark Police

Police seek the public’s help in identifying two male suspects in connection with a grocery store robbery that occurred Monday afternoon.

According to police, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers responded to El Original’s Supermarket, located at 214 Hawthorne Avenue, on a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, police learned that two armed black males entered the store and demanded cash at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in a 4-door, white 2014 Kia Optima driven by a third male.

The first suspect is described as approximately 5’6” to 5’7” tall and 140 lbs. to 150 lbs. He was wearing gray sweat pants and a black sweater.

Police said remaining suspect is 5’7” to 5’9” tall and 140 lbs. to 170 lbs. and wore gray sweat pants, a blue sweater and a blue bandana.

The suspect vehicle was reported stolen on October 14, 2015 (NPD UPDATE: Vehicle stolen 10-14-2017) in the 300-block of North 5th Street.

While police are actively searching for these suspects and the suspect vehicle, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing them from the streets.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
