Grenade-Like Device Found at Harrison Goodwill

Harrison Town

A suspicious device found at the Goodwill in Harrison has police investigating.

According to a statement released by Harrison Police officials, at approximately 5 p.m. they received a call from Goodwill Industries on Supor Blvd that among some of the donations that they received on a regular basis, they discovered what they believed was a landmine.

Authorities said, Harrison Police arrived and immediately observed the device which prompted an evacuation of the building.

"We are currently awaiting Jersey City Bomb Squad. Having had a quick look at the device, officers on the scene do not believe it is an explosive; however, out of an abundance of caution, we will leave the final determination to bomb experts" Lt. David Doyle said.

According to Lt. Doyle, they do not know the source of the device, but based on what officers gathered, so far, they have no reason to believe it is anything other than something that was mixed in with clothing and article donations.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
