Gas Main Break Shuts Down Route 4 in Paramus

A late night gas main break had authorities close a section of Route 4 in both directions in Paramus.

According to initial reports, construction crews working in the area of Forest Avenue accidentally struck a 6" high pressure gas main at around 12:30 a.m. sending firefighters and Hazmat crews to the scene to investigate.

Utility crews were rushed to the scene to shut down the main that was badly damaged and compromised which caused about an hour delay to shut off the gas according to reports.

Police received assistance from The Department of Transportation to assist in detouring traffic on the highway.

Authorities were expected to have traffic opened on Route 4 sometimes Saturday.

There were no injuries reported.
