Funeral Services Set for Man Found Dead Near Irvington Post Office

Newark

The family of a man who was found dead near a Post Office in Irvington has announced his funeral services.

Services for Mr. David Scott are scheduled for this Monday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Perry's Funeral home located on Mercer Street in Newark's Central Ward.

Authorities found Scott unconscious and unresponsive in the early morning hours of September 27, 2015 according to reports.

A local business owner said that Scott usually assisted him with small tasks and called Scott "a good guy". "I offered Scott food every night before he fell asleep near the Post Office" the business owner said.

A relative for Scott said, "I am too young to know for sure where things began to go wrong with Scott".

Several commuters that took the bus at that location remembered the man as being a nice guy. "I'm sad because I never knew his name but many of us taking the bus would talk to him and give him money to buy food" a woman waiting for a bus at that location said.

"To be honest, he was always out here so he made me feel safe since the area is not the best" the woman said.

"I am too young to know for sure where things begin to go wrong with Scott", the relative said. " I can say that things began to go downhill for him when he lost his baby brother that he loved very much. Yes, this took a toll on him where he appeared to always wanted to need space or get away. He found inner peace with ordinary people that he hung out with in the streets" the relative said.

"Whatever the case is, we loved and will miss David. We are thankful that he is now resting in peace" the relative continued.

The family of David Scott wants to graciously thank everyone that helped and looked out for him daily.

They are extending thanks to the Irvington Police Department, Irvington City officials and the community.
