A Freehold Township man has been sentenced to five years in state prison for a 2022 drunk-driving crash that killed a pedestrian in Old Bridge.
According to information released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera, John DeTulio, 41, was sentenced on August 28, 2026, by Superior Court Judge James Hoebich.
Authorities said DeTulio received a five-year prison term subject to the No Early Release Act, along with a nine-year driver’s license suspension.
DeTulio previously pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter on September 3, 2025.
The charges stemmed from a January 28, 2022 crash that occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Route 9 near Ferry Road in Old Bridge.
Prosecutors said DeTulio was driving at a high rate of speed while under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle struck pedestrian Harvey Berse, 69, of Old Bridge.
Berse suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Old Bridge Police Department in conjunction with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
