Residents are invited to celebrate love, laughter, and timeless music at the Annual Pre-Valentine’s Day Concert hosted by South Ward Councilman Patrick Council and Ras J. Baraka.

The free community event will take place at George Washington Carver Elementary School, located at 333 Clinton Place in Newark, and will feature an afternoon packed with comedy and classic R&B.

The first half of the program will bring plenty of laughs, led by comedian “Talent,” also known as Mr. It’s Just Comedy, whose career includes hosting duties on Showtime at the Apollo, appearances on Def Comedy Jam, Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, Comedy Central, and roles in several motion pictures.

He will be joined by fellow comedians and hosted by Jay the Comedian, setting the tone with humor and high energy.

Following the comedy showcase, the spotlight will turn to music as legendary R&B singer Freddie Jackson takes the stage with a live band.

Jackson is set to perform many of his iconic hits, including “Rock Me Tonight,” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” “Jam Tonight,” “You Are My Lady,” “A Little Bit More,” and “Tasty Love,” offering attendees a soulful and nostalgic experience.

Admission to the concert is free. For more information, residents can call 973-733-3753 or 973-733-3754. Free tickets are also available through Eventbrite under “Patrick Council 2026 Pre-Valentine’s Concert,” and tickets may be picked up at designated community locations, which will be announced by organizers.

The event promises an afternoon of comedy, music, and community as Newark comes together to celebrate ahead of Valentine’s Day.
