Former Rutgers-Newark Professor Admits Having Sexual Contact with Man with Cerebral Palsy

Newark

A former Rutgers professor pleaded guilty Monday in state Superior Court in Newark to willingly having sexual contact with a disabled man.

Authorities say, Anna Stubblefield, 48, pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact as part of an agreement reached with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Officials said Stubblefield initially claimed that she and D.J. fell in love when his brother, a Rutgers student, introduced them so that Stubblefield could help D.J. improve his communications.

She ultimately claimed that D.J., who was then 29, consented in 2011 to the sexual encounters in her Newark office.

Prosecutors during Stubblefield's 2015 trial argued that due to the result of the victim’s impaired mental state, he couldn't give consent because he can't speak.

Authorities said Stubblefield’s sentencing is scheduled for May 7th. adding that she could receive credit for the year and six months that she served at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Hunterdon County.

A judge on October 2016 awarded D.J.’s family a $4 million in a civil lawsuit filed by the family.
