Former Paterson Officer Indicted for Domestic Violence

Passaic County authorities reported that Joseph Tuminelli, 28, from Paterson, has been indicted today. Authorities say Tuminelli was indicted on multiple acts of domestic violence and is a former member of the Paterson Police Department.

According to officials, a Passaic County Grand Jury has returned an indictment, charging Joseph Tuminelli with multiple acts of domestic violence in the City of Paterson on February 18, 2021.

Tuminelli was indicted on one count of third-degree Aggravated Assault Against a Domestic Violence Victim and one count of fourth-degree Stalking. He was previously charged with the petty disorderly persons' offense of Harassment.

The sentencing exposure for third-degree Aggravated Assault is 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison; for fourth-degree Stalking, it is up to 18 months; and for Harassment, it is up to 30 days in the County Jail.

Joseph Tuminelli was released on Pretrial Monitoring on February 23, 2021. Mr. Tuminelli will appear before a Superior Court Judge for arraignment.
