Former Newark Native Killed in Bergen County Crash

A former Newark resident died and three others were seriously injured when a vehicle struck a disabled car on a highway in Bergen County on Monday. 

According to Alpine Police, the crash took place around 1:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Alpine. 

According to police, a vehicle involved in an earlier crash was disabled in the left lane of the parkway when another car slammed into it.

Police arrived and found severely injured Mr. Fidel Canseco, 23, a Northvale resident, who had been driving the disabled car unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

Police say three occupants of the other vehicle, ages 18, 19, and 22-years-old, all residents of New York, were taken by ambulance to local hospitals in stable condition.

The official cause of the crash is under investigation. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, on Thursday, January 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 28, at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
