Former Newark Man's Appeal in Connection to a Fatal Shooting Outside King's Fried Chicken Rejected

A former Newark man's appeal arguing ineffective legal assistance in connection to to a 2004 fatal shooting outside a fried chicken restaurant in Newark was rejected. 

In the appeal, Medina accused his trial attorney of failing to keeping him informed of his case status, advised him not to testifying at his trial, failed to provide him with discovery, along with additional claims. among other claims.

On January 1, 2014, Medina and Mutha Coleman got into an argument at the 16th Avenue store in Newark leading to the fatal shooting outside the establishment.

After Medina shot Coleman in the head he fled in a vehicle with two others.

Medina was convicted of murder and weapons offenses and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. 

A state appellate panel rejected Angel Medina's appeal on Monday denying his petition for post-conviction relief.
