Former Newark Arts High School Student Scores 1000 Career Points at NJ College

Newark Public Schools offcials and city leaders are applauding the athletic accomplishment of a former visual artist and current West Ward resident.

**Arts High School** 2016 graduate and current **College of Saint Elizabeth's** in Morris County Senior guard Rakiyah Sellers scored her 1,000th career point, and the No. 2 seed College of Saint Elizabeth women's basketball team cruised to a 76-51 victory over No. 3 seed Notre Dame of Maryland in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal on Wednesday night inside Saint Joseph's Hall according to a published report sent by college officials.

During her Arts High School years, Sellers led Lady Jaguar basketball team and scored 977 career points for the nation's first school of visual and performing arts. In her major as a Television Production Broadcasting student, she received excellent grades and awards.

Arts High School Principal Mr. Ricardo Pedro sent congratulations to Rakiyah in an early Thursday morning statement. "I am very proud of Rakiyah and all of her accomplishments. She's an achiever on and off the basketball court".

Sellers began her basketball career at the **Ivy Hill Elementary School** in Newark's West Ward.

College of Saint Elizabeth athletic officials say the Sellers and the Eagles will head to Keystone for the CSAC Championship game on Saturday at a time to be determined.

"A massive CONGRATULATIONS to senior guard Rakiyah Sellers for scoring her 1,000th career point in tonight's first quarter," Saint Elizabeth College athletic officials tweeted on Wednesday.

Sellers will graduate from college in May and focus on social work.
