Former Irvington Man's 30 Years Sentence for Fatal Newark Shooting Upheld

Newark New Jersey

A 30-year prison sentence of a convicted murderer Steven St. Fleur, 36, formerly of Irvington, was upheld yesterday by a state appeals court.

St. Fleur argued that under the state's No Early Release Act he should be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of his sentence making his sentence illegal.

However, the appellate panel stated that St. Fleur's murder conviction requires him to serve 30 years in prison without parole.

The 2014 ruling by a Superior Court judge to deny St. Fleur's motion to correct an illegal sentence stands, making him eligible for parole on Dec. 17, 2031.

In July 2003, St. Fleur was convicted of murder in connection with the killing of Emmanuel Previllon, 27, of Irvington.

St. Fleur was acquitted in the murder of Edner Pierre, 28, of Newark, who was also fatally shot that same night.

Gregory Ulysse, 37, formerly of Irvington, was convicted of both murders. He was sentenced to 60 years in state prison.
