Foot Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted for Weapons Possession in Newark

Newark - An intense foot pursuit led to an arrest of a man wanted for possessing a gun in Newark's West Ward early this morning.

According to reports, at approximately 9:45 a.m., several calls were received by police from residents who reported seeing a man possibly carrying a gun in the area of South Munn Avenue near South Orange Avenue.

Officers swiftly responded to the call and immediately spotted a male suspect fitting the description in the area reports said.

As several police officers approached, the suspect noticed, then took off running westbound on South Munn.

Officers requesting backup had cops flooding the area, where they chased the suspect a short distance and apprehended him without any of the officers or the suspect being injured.

A thorough search of the area had officers locate a weapon where they then placed the suspect under arrest.

Police called in a crime scene unit to photograph the area and the weapon.

The incident is under investigation by Newark Police.
