Police in Newark took Mr. David Gaffney, 22, of Newark, in custody for allegedly possessing a loaded handgun yesterday (Friday).
According to authorities, at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers patrolling North 5th Street and 6th Avenue observed a male with a gun in which they said he dropped once becoming aware of police presence.
Police said following a brief foot chase, they apprehended the suspect then recovered the loaded .380 caliber handgun.
Police arrested Mr.David Gaffney without further incident, charging him with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession and Resisting Arrest.
The charges lodged against Mr. Gaffney are mere accusations.
Mr. Gaffney is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
