A new school year begins under the glow of picture-perfect early September skies as thousands of students across New Jersey’s largest city return to classrooms this morning.
In true back-to-school fashion, the air carries that crisp, fall-like feeling, just enough to make the morning refreshing without needing a jacket.
At 4:30 a.m., temperatures were sitting comfortably at 67 degrees outside of Newark’s West Side High School in the city’s West Ward.
It’s the kind of weather that makes walking to school or waiting at the bus stop feel pleasant rather than chilly, and yes, short-sleeve uniforms will do just fine today.

Excitement fills the air in neighborhoods from the Ironbound to Vailsburg, as students sport fresh uniforms, backpacks, and eager smiles.
Parents wave goodbye with pride, teachers prep their classrooms with anticipation, and the city’s streets once again come alive with that unmistakable buzz of first-day energy.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 74 degrees. Winds will shift gently from the north to southeast between 6 to 10 mph—just enough to keep the day comfortable.
Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear with a low around 63.
As the school bells ring across Newark and the North Jersey region, nature is offering the perfect backdrop—a calm, sunny day full of promise.
To all students, families, and educators, have a joyful, safe, and successful first day back. Let’s make it a great school year, Newark!
