Firefighters Respond to Chemical Spill At Textile Facility in Newark

The Newark Fire Division responded to Safer Holding Corporation, at 1875 McCarter Highway, on a call of a chemical spill on Friday morning.

Officials say at approximately 7:49 a.m., the NFD Haz-Mat Unit responded to the textile facility, where a leak occurred from a 1,000-gallon tank diluted with Hydrogen Peroxide. NFD estimates that 200 gallons of the non-flammable chemical spilled.

According to fired officials, the building was occupied by 15 employees who have all been evacuated.

Three employees were transported to Clara Maas Hospital due to exposure officials said.

All injuries are considered non-life threatening at this time.

NFD Haz-Mat members are continuing to control and investigate the source of the leak.
