Elizabeth

By: Jeff Sommes

Firefighters in Elizabeth quickly brought a fast-moving blaze under control after it erupted inside a newly constructed home early Monday morning.

Crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue just before 2 a.m. for reports of a house fire.

When units arrived, they encountered flames coming from a two-story residence.

Firefighters immediately stretched lines, began hitting the fire from the exterior, and then made entry into the building, where they removed five individuals from inside the home.

As of 4 a.m., their conditions had not been confirmed.

Despite the intensity of the flames, crews were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
