Firefighters Extinguish Newark North Ward House Fire

Newark

Firefighters in Newark made fast work out of an early morning fire that ignited inside a house in the city's North Ward Sunday morning.

Crews responded to reports of a fire with possible trapped occupants in the 500 block of Summer Avenue around 2:40 a.m.

Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the rear of the two-and-a-half-story structure and began to stretch several lines to attack the blaze.

Firefighters found the seat of the fire and focused their attention on flames coming from the left side of the vinyl siding framed house.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS. The fire was under control in under a half-hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
