Firefighters Extinguish Fire in Vacant House on South 9th Street in Newark

Newark fire offcials are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged a house in the city Thursday morning.

Officials say at approximately 12:10 a.m., firefighters were called to the 200 block of South 9th Street between South Orange Avenue and South 9th Street to investigate reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire on the 3rd floor of a vacant three-story structure at that location.

Firefighters were able to swiftly knock down stubborn flames that entered the cockloft in the rear of the house.

There were no trapped or injured occupants after police searched the home.
