Firefighters in Irvington, with assistance from neighboring departments, quickly brought a fast-moving early morning blaze under control Sunday that damaged a multi-family building in the township, officials said.

According to initial reports, crews were dispatched around 3:20 a.m. to 172 Myrtle Avenue after receiving multiple calls about a fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames spreading inside the walls on the second floor of a two-story building containing several apartments.
About three hose lines were stretched as crews worked to knock down the blaze, which extended into the building’s cockloft area.
A second alarm was struck as a precaution to bring in additional manpower.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in roughly 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local fire officials.
