Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Building Fire in Irvington Township

Irvington Township

Fire officials in Irvington are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a building near the township's downtown on Monday night.

Officials said the heavy fire broke out inside a large brick building located in the 700 block of Springfield Avenue near 22nd Street around 7:35 p.m.

Crews arrived at the scene found flames engulfing the building and began an exterior attack of the blaze.

Officials say multiple past fires inside the building had compromised floors, hampering firefighters' ability to get inside the building.

A second alarm was activated for additional manpower at the scene, according to officials.

Crews were able to get the fire under control just before 9:45 p.m. with no serious injuries reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
