Firefighters Battle Fire Inside Abandon House in Newark

Firefighters in Newark battled a fast-moving fire that destroyed an abandoned house in Newark's West Ward on Monday morning.

According to fire offcials, flames tore through the two and a half story house located at South Orange Avenue and South 18th Street just before 1:55 a.m.

Offcials say crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the house.

Firefighters stretched several lines to battle the fire and were able to gain control in about 40 minutes.

A search of the house indicated no trapped or injured occupants and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
