Firefighter Killed in Hit-and-Run Outside Somerville Fire House

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and run that killed a longtime firefighter in Somerville Friday night, according to police.

The victim,  75-year-old George Kavanaugh was found by police who responded to the Lincoln Hose Company Fire House on Warren Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. laying on the ground injured outside.

An initial investigation revealed that Kavanaugh had been struck by a vehicle.

He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Somerville police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident.
